Invitation to a Nordic-Arab PhD course on “Comparative studies of women in public life – theoretical and methodological challenges”

The Nordic-Arab research collaboration project by the Center of Arab Women for Training and Research (CAWTAR) and the University of Stockholm, financed by the Swedish Research Council, is pleased to invite you to a Nordic-Arab PhD-course, November 26-27, 2014 on “Comparative studies of women in public life – theoretical and methodological challenges”. The aim of the project is to present and encourage discussion on theoretical and methodological challenges, when conducting comparative studies – comparative in time and/or location. PhD students, who are doing research on women in public life within social sciences, humanities, media analysis etc., are welcome to apply for this course. We welcome papers on single countries as well as cross-country papers.

 The participating PhD-students will present their on-going research projects and will receive feed-back from fellow participants as well as from a number of international scholars. It will be possible to obtain ECTS points based the presentation of a written paper and active participation in the discussions. The language of the conference is English with simultaneous translation into Arabic.

The PhD course is preceded by a Nordic-Arab symposium on “The Roles of Feminists Movements during Regime Change” to be held November 24-25 in Tunis.  This symposium is the third symposium organized within the framework of the International Research Collaboration project “New Avenues for Political Influence for Women in the Arab Region”, financed by the Swedish Research Council. The PhD students are welcome to also participate in this symposium.

 The project will be able to pay for travel and accommodation for about 10-15 scholars from the Arab region and the Nordic countries, who present papers at the PhD course. No conference fee. Meals will be served to all participants.
